The collection holds a few salient examples of ethnographic money, such as gold rings from Ethiopia, brass money of the Western African indigenous peoples, Burmese silver ‘shells’, Laotian ‘tiger tongues’ and a Chinese tea-brick. Christian communion tokens and emergency money issued during the World Wars are also represented. Amongst other objects, we have tokens made for jewellery and examples of coin-jewellery, such as an Arab cap studded with Ottoman coins.
