Note:

Thierry describes this coin as a private issue from Northern Vietnam (Đàng Ngoài), dating from between 1592 and 1789, while Barker regarded it as a rebel issue dating from 1832-1833. However Thierry's assertion that the coin was already described in 1822 would, if correct, render Barker's dating untenable.

Note:

This example should be compared with HCR 58798 which differs in colour, suggestive of a different alloy composition, and in having the reverse flat, without external or internal rims. Although not mentioned specifically in his JONS paper, Thierry indicated in his unpublished notes that he regarded both coins as being unofficial issues of the same type, dating from the 18th century.
