Note:
Hartill illustrates a specimen from the Pirey collection (Joyaux, 2011) which matches HCR 58850 in having the left foot of 寶 shorter than the right and directed more sideways than downwards. Hartill includes this type in his final category of unattributed Vietnamese coins: “Small copper - Others”.

Note:
Thierry (CMV, pages 51, 77), having noted the impossibility of separating out three different series of Thái Binh Thông Bảo coins cast privately under the Mạc at Cao Bằng (莫氏(莫家)), under Later Lê Restored (後黎), or under the Nguyễn Lords (阮氏(阮家)), still attributes these smallest Thái Binh Thông Bảo coins (< 21 mm) to the period of the Mạc at Cao Bằng (莫氏(莫家)) and accords them a 17th century date.
