Note:
Hartill included two different examples (larger and smaller) of Thái Thánh Thông Bao, both with ‘long-arm’ Li script bảo variety, among his category: ‘Small Copper – Distinct Calligraphy, Group 1. (“An Phap type”)’. Hartill has reviewed the various hypotheses for the chronology of An Phap-type coins advanced by Thierry and others. He proposes (GCC, p. 143) that they were manufactured in North Vietnam under the Mac between 1540 and 1590. This provisional dating has been followed here.

Note:
Thierry (CMV, p. 43) attributed this coin to the start of the 14th century on account of the ‘tiger tail’ Thông which closely mimics a coin of the Trần (陳朝) dynasty (CMV, p. 35).

Note:
Notwithstanding his earlier view (CMV, p. 35), Thierry (CMVS, p. 43) dated this unattributed privately issued small coin only approximately, to the 11th to 16th centuries. He considered the inscription to be a hybrid of Thái Binh Thánh Bảo (read TBRL) and Yuan Feng tong bao (read clockwise).
