Note:
The Trị Binh Nguyên Bảo coin (HCR 58883) is an accurate lightweight copy of the Northern Song Zhi Ping yuan bao of Ying Zong (1064 – 1067) (see Hartill, CCC, p. 136, Figure 16.159). The sī厶 (private) radical is open, as in the Song Dynasty model and the shuǐ氵(water) radical has an upward connecting stroke towards the top left corner of the 口kǒu (mouth) radical. This is quite unlike the Lý Dynasty coin of the Trị Binh era of Lý Cao Tông (1205-1210) (Barker, p.61, Fig.8.1). This example has insufficient metal at the rim. Hartill included this regular script coin among his category ‘Large Copper – Resembling Song Dynasty Chinese Coins’. The regular script bao of HCR 58883 is broader than in Hartill’s Figure 2.161 which also has the sī厶 radical closed. Although not recorded by Thierry (CMV, p.62), HCR 58883 matches well with the style of other copies of Chinese coins, such as the Jing De yuan bao (CMV, Fig. 305), which Thiery dates to the 17th to 18th centuries.
