Note:
Hartill (GCC, p. 146, Fig. 2.867) places this unattributed Vietnamese Hàm Binh Nguyên Bảo coin among his category: ‘Small Copper – Distinct Calligraphy, Group 1. (“An Phap type”)’. HCR 58951 belongs to this variety. Hartill proposes (GCC, p. 143) that “An Phap type” coins were manufactured in North Vietnam under the Mạc between 1540 and 1590. This provisional dating has been followed here. Numerous examples and several stylistic variants can be seen on the Zeno database, many of them found in Indonesia.

Note:
Thierry (CMVS, p. 45, Fig. 94), illustrates (as a Xian Ping yuan bao) an example of this small private issue, as a copy of the official issue of the Northern Song Emperor, Zhen Zong (998-1022). Following his usual practice in CMVS, Thierry dated these privately minted coins very approximately, between the 11th and 16th centuries.
