Hartill (GCC, p. 146, Fig. 2.869) places this unattributed Vietnamese Tường Phù Nguyên Bảo coin among his category: ‘Small Copper – Distinct Calligraphy, Group 1. (“An Phap type”)’. HCR 58962 belongs to this variety, on grounds of size and style. Hartill proposes (GCC, p. 143) that “An Phap type” coins were manufactured in North Vietnam under the Mạc between 1540 and 1590. This provisional dating has been followed here.
