Note:
HCR 58963 is a diminutive (<20mm) Tường Phù Nguyên Bảo coin of a reddish alloy evidently rich in copper. The inscription appears to be modelled on the Chinese Northern Song Xiang Fu yuan bao coin (Hartill CCC, p. 131, Figure 16.55), rather than the Japanese Sho Fu Gen Ho Nagasaki Trade Coin (Hartill, EJC, p. 37). However the Vietnamese style seal script 元 is neither recorded by Hartill (GCC, pp 139-152) nor by Thierry (CMV, CMVS), nor on the Zeno Oriental Coins database (https://www.zeno.ru/search.php?searchid=483032&cpage=3), accessed 19 March 2021. The reverse of the coin is flat and polished, typical of many coins of the An Phap type. The coin appears to be unrecorded, but Japanese catalogues have not been searched to establish this.
