Note:
Hartill (GCC, p. 150, Figure 2.967) illustrates a Thánh Tống Nguyên Bảo coin entirely in running script. Thierry (CMVS, p. 63, Figure 311) illustrates the common seal script type of Thánh Tống Nguyên Bảo. On Zeno, different versions in bronze and brass are illustrated. These resemble the ‘running script’ Song dynasty Sheng Song Yuan Bao coins of Hui Zong (1101 – 1125) (Hartill CCC, p. 149, Figures 16.37–383). However, no other examples have been noted with a broad almost regular bao, with the right arm forming an acute angle with the shoulder and fitted round the curving left hand margin of the rounded central hole. HCR 58969 is therefore regarded here as an unrecorded type of “Round Hole Hand” (円穿手) coin, closely related in style to the round-holed coins listed by Tominaga Masayoshi’s in his book ‘Anasen Nyumon: Terui Senko’ (Annam Unofficial Coins).
