The Ashmolean Museum has a very good collection of tokens and jettons. Jettons of late medieval and early modern date, predominantly from England, France, the Low Countries, and Germany (Nuremberg), were originally issued for accounting purposes but could also be used as petty cash. Tokens are private monetary issues produced by individuals and businesses at different times, predominantly in England/Britain, in the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, with a view to advertising and to aiding the local cash flow.
