The coin collection of the Ashmolean Museum covers most parts of the world to the present day. Grouped in this category are coins of the western tradition post-dating c. AD 1500, from Europe, the Americas, Australasia, and colonial or post-colonial areas of Africa and Asia. Its particular strength lies in the coins of the British Isles, the British Empire, and the United States, but many parts of Europe, Italy (including the papacy), Iberia, France, Germany, the Low Countries, etc., are also well represented.
